Paul Hanson's Story

As a sax player, Paul has recorded and/or performed with several artists, including Boz Scaggs, The Temptations, Tower of Power, Steve Smith, Tom Coster, Randy Jackson, What It Is, Omar Sosa, dobroist Rob Ickes, Eddie Money (tenor sax soloist on the 1985 hit song "Take Me Home Tonight"), and many more.

  • A wide range of musical genres – He has played with jazz legends such as Omar Sosa, fusion legends such as Steve Smith and Tom Coster and even dobro player Rob Ickes, demonstrating versatility.

International performances and exceptional commitment to teaching. He has developed a one-of-a-kind position in Cirque Du Soleil, performed on top of the world's most prestigious festivals, and taught widely, making him a highly recognized and esteemed practitioner of modern bassoon performance and improvisation.

In 2008, Paul was invited to own a new position as an electric improvising bassoonist for Cirque Du Soleil' ZED at Tokyo Disney Resort.

From 2008-2011, the show was performed 380 times a year.

He set the precedent for Cirque Du Soleil to continue auditioning bassoonists.

Global Performances

  • Paul's performances have taken him all over Europe, Japan, South America and the United States.
  • He has performed at Carnegie Hall, North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival and Ravinia Festival, among other prestigious venues and festivals.
  • As a Legere Bassoon reed artist, he has also performed at NAMM shows in Los Angeles and Nashville.
